The 0ne Rupee Film is a project initiated by LFEBF (Little Fish Eat Big Fish), the no-budget filmmakers' forum from Kolkata. The Little Fishes have produced 14 short subjects and 2 feature-length films till date. They have distributed their films via limited DVD release, online VOD portals, torrents etc. Since its inception in 2008, building up an alternative network of film distribution has been one of the primary objectives of the forum. After coming up with three DVDs in three consecutive years they announced this project in February, 2012. Crowdfunding, as they look at it, is one of the best ways to connect to the prospective audience of a film, and yes, without a promotional budget as such.
The 0ne Rupee Film looks forward to build up a database of people interested in independent filmmaking. The subject of the film is Indian Independent Film itself. In the last five years, independent films became quite popular through out the country. The film aspires to approach this "change" carefully. A documentary wrapped up within a fiction and also a fiction as the core of the documentation, that's what the film is.

Of course, by now you have come to hear about crowdfunding. It's nothing but a fundraising process where contributors are heterogeneous. Platforms like Kickstarter, IndieGoGo etc help artists and social activists by helping them connect to people. Whoever is convinced to stand by donates some money to that particular project. The platform deducts its fees and delivers the rest to the one who has pledged. Since there used to be no such widely recognized Crowdfunding Platforms in India we had to start on our own. For artists, it's important to be associated to such platforms as artists are not merchants and the whole process of collecting money can become a pain for both the receiver and the contributor. Some newly established crowdfunding platforms (newer than LFEBF we guess) are showing interest to stand by this project. May be we'll collaborate with them shortly just to make it easier for you to contribute. We've always been doing that i.e making it easier for you. That's why, as the name suggests, the minimum amount of the asked contribution is just 1 Re. During our work span, we've seen often people have such interests that their wallets don't support. We ourselves have often pirated our films for our friends who did never have the financial ability to buy a retail copy. We don't want such things to get into the way of our communication. We are looking out for people who are really interested and not for people who are really rich. Of course if we find financially-able-interested people no one will be happier than us. You do have certain ideas about the costs of film production, don't you? We just want more people to get involved and don't want money to be a problem here. That's why we are not asking something that might leave you in a tough spot. But if you don't think about us and donate 500 rupees while you easily could 5000, that's going to leave us in the tough spot.
Share the idea of this project with others if you find it interesting.
Contribute and tell others to do the same.
With your support we can make it happen!
